We wanted to share a few easy tips on how to arrange flowers to give your home a bright update into the new season. Of course, the weather isn't reflecting what month it is, so hopefully some fresh flowers can really help liven the mood.
We're arranging our flowers in a variety of vases/jars. We like using jars which you wouldn't normally expect flowers to be in. A mason jar can be the perfect size for a small bunch of flowers, and we also like using tea light holders for a couple of buds.
Make sure you prep the stems. Trimming them to length at a diagonal angle makes them last much longer, as they soak up water easier. If you trim the leaves which are below the water level, it stops them from rotting and decreasing how long the flowers last.
One of our favourite tips when arranging flowers is to make a grid on top of the vase with tape. The flowers can then be pushed through and they will stand directly up right.
We used a tea light holder to display some rose buds. These are perfect when you don't have a large surface area.
We chose to arrange our flowers in separate colours, but if you want to experiment more mix them up a bit, but make sure the colours go together - imagine you are putting together an outfit, the principles are still the same. Once you have your colour palette you can arrange different textures and sizes as they will blend perfectly. Don't aim for them to look perfect, flowers without greenery often look fake. This is also the case when flowers are perfectly placed, mix them up a little and they will look more natural and not forced - you don't want them to look symmetrical.
If your flowers are for an event, you may want them to be open. A quick tip to make this happen would be to simply blow a hairdryer gently on them and then place them in warm water. They will open up in no time looking pretty and fresh.
